Tag 8: Infosys and the Mysore Zoo

There is no trip to Mysore without a trip to Infosys, a multi-national corporation with 200,000 employees (45% women!) worldwide. Infosys was founded by Dr. Nahrahma Muthy, a classmate of Professor Doreswamy, our guide for the weekend and guest lecturer at our Schweinfurt campus, The company has been providing end-to-end IT solutions for over 20 years, primarily to the US and UK, whose markets are now saturated. Infosys is looking to Europe, the Middle East and S. America for growth, a potential opportunity for our faculty and students :)

But what’s really impressive is the campus and the sheer volume of the company’s workforce: they have an new batch of 1800 hires every Monday for a period of six months. We had the good fortune to be there on a Monday and witness an orientation of ‘freshers’ in the geodesic dome theatre/ auditorium (think Cineworld Imax XXL). The training consists of four components: technical domain, soft skills, industry domain and quality. We were given a superb briefing by S.K., the Head of Training.

We went on to tour the campus by golf cart, and ended up at the administrative offices, which strangely resemble the U.S. Capitol.

After recouping, regrouping and eating a great Indian buffet at the ‘pub’, we explained that check-out times are not on India S t r e t c h i b l e Time, much to the dismay of most everyone ready for a pool party. We headed to the zoo. instead, only to find out later that only one person that really wanted to go to the zoo. Most wanted to go to St. Philomenia’s Church. Hmmm. The animals seemed most entertained by us, as did most of the locals. ;)

We returned to the Main Campus via KFC for the brave of stomach.
